What is post-production?
Post-production refers to all the steps involved in editing a film, including video editing, color correction, color grading, the creation of animated movements (e.g. logos), video retouching, sound mixing, and sound design.
The post-production process
Step 1: Material review and organisation of the data
Before editing can even begin, it is essential that the film material is organised in detail.
Step 2: Editing the film
The next step is the editing of the film. During editing, the material is put together in such a way that the story is built up visually and emotionally.
At this point, a decision is also made between rough cut and fine cut.
Step 3: Digital post-processing
The image and sound material is now optimized and finalized.
The sound must be of the same quality throughout the film. Sound post-processing can often be one of the most time-consuming steps in post-production.
The image is also visually enhanced with the help of visual effects (also known as VFX). In addition to retouching and color correction, other effects can also be applied to the image material.
